Congress Venue

Xalapa is the capital city of the Mexican state of Veracruz.

Current population in Xalapa almost reaches a million people. It is located in a mountainous area in the remmants of cloud forest, whose surroundings have a number of rivers, streams and, to a minor extent, lakes and ponds.

Xalapa name comes from the Nahuatl roots "Xalli" (sand) and "Apan" (water place), which approximately means "spring in the sand." This name is pronounced [∫a′lapan] in Nahuatl, though final [n] is often omitted in Nahuatl pronunciation; the [∫] sound (like English 'sh'). "Jalapa" (like Méjico) is used mostly by foreigners.

Average annual temperature in Xalapa is around 18C although in summer this can rise to 30C. Rains are common in June but sunny days are also expected. A raincoat is thus recommended.

The congress will take place in the Instituto de Ecología, A.C.
